What would you do if you were in the middle of a nuclear holocaust? How would you pass time in the once lively but now desolate area? "There will come soft rains" by Ray Bradbury takes place after a nuclear holocaust in the year 2026. There was a nuke that had been launched and it wiped out all reminiscences of humanity living on earth. Except for one house. The book starts off an enigma. It continues to be a mystery until mid way through the plot of the story, which was unclear until now.
Although it was a cloudy plot until the story was almost done, it seemed to open itself up and tell you whats going to happen next. Its a very predictable book which i didn't like at all. Still i kept reading because i got this far so why not finish strong, right? Anyway, the house was automatic so it was accustomed to what the now deceased family normally did.
So the house goes about its once normal routine, such as cleaning the kitchen, making breakfast, and taking out the trash. However, there is no trash, family to make breakfast for, and no mess in the kitchen to clean up anyway. This is where the book fell flat of my expectations, considering its favorable cover, and its interesting excerpt on the back. This is a perfect example of never judge a book by its cover.
Now i know that if something looks interesting, doesn't necessarily mean its interesting. I would call this book a waste of time and i probably would cringe at the thought of even directing my pupil in the direction of this book. Anyway as i end all my essay's, putting all things into consideration i wouldn't recommend this book to any type of reader, may it be action, sci-fy, or mystery. Never Ever.
